Basketball Recap: Gilpin County Takes a Loss

Gilpin County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 27th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt a 76-14 loss at the hands of the Estes Park Bobcats. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-6.

Estes Park got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Hayden Powell out in front who almost dropped a triple-double on 20 points, ten boards, and nine steals. The dominant performance also gave Powell a new career-high in blocks (five). Another player making a difference was Phineas Smith, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 boards.

Gilpin County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Estes Park, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.

Gilpin County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 46-28 loss against North Park on the 11th. As for Estes Park, they will venture away from home to challenge Dayspring Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Estes Park is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.7 points per game this season.
