Basketball Recap: Daniela Reyes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Macksville over Bucklin

Macksville lost against Bucklin back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The contest between the Macksville Mustangs and the Bucklin Red Aces didn't end well, with the Macksville Mustangs falling 50-32. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 216th, while the Red Aces are ranked 39th).

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Daniela Reyes, who posted nine points. Reyes is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Laney Butler, who put up nine points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Macksville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Bucklin was led to victory by Karlee Evans and Emmy Kirk. Evans earned 16 points along with six steals and five rebounds, while Kirk en route to 16 points. With that strong performance, Evans is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan Stout, who scored seven points and five boards.

Macksville's record is now 8-10. As for Bucklin, the win (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 16-3.

Macksville has already played their next game, a 57-29 victory against Otis-Bison on the 20th. As for Bucklin, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 65-21 win against Satanta on the 21st.
