Preview: Los Fresnos Falcons vs. Rivera Raiders

Los Fresnos is 9-1 against Rivera since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Los Fresnos Falcons will head out on the road to take on the Rivera Raiders at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Los Fresnos' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven matchups.

Los Fresnos pushed their score all the way to 78 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Harlingen by a score of 80-78. While losing is never fun, Los Fresnos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 351st, while Harlingen is ranked 139th).

Despite their loss, Los Fresnos saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jj Salazar, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Salazar has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. Gio Galvan was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with seven rebounds.

While Rivera couldn't quite beat Hanna on Friday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 34-point defeat they were dealt on Wednesday. Rivera fell just short of Hanna by a score of 56-54. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Rivera has suffered yet this season.

Los Fresnos' loss dropped their record down to 22-7. As for Rivera, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-9.

Los Fresnos was able to grind out a solid victory over Rivera in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 68-60. Does Los Fresnos have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rivera turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
