Softball Recap: Mt. Vernon Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

There's no place like home for Mt. Vernon, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They put the hurt on the Strafford Indians with a sharp 11-1 victory on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Mountaineers, who have now won 19 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Mt. Vernon let Lilly Burk and Jocelyn Liss run wild. Burk went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Liss went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most doubles Burk has posted over her last eight matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Cheyenne Bieber, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Mt. Vernon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Strafford only posted an OBP of .211.

Mt. Vernon's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Strafford, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-15.

Looking ahead, Mt. Vernon is taking a road trip to challenge Clever at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blue Jays will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Mountaineers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Strafford, they will host Lamar at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
