Baseball Recap: Westmont Takes a Loss

Westmont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Santa Cruz Cardinals. That's two games in a row now that the Warriors have lost by exactly two runs.

Westmont saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Hines, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Kevin Rangel was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.

Westmont's loss dropped their record down to 2-12-1. As for Santa Cruz, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Westmont will square off against Los Altos at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Santa Cruz, they will host Wilcox at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cardinals 3.2, the Chargers 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
