Volleyball Recap: Lakes Takes a Loss

Lakes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Zion-Benton Zee-Bees. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Zee-Bees 25-21 in the first set.

Lakes was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Zion-Benton work for it, especially in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 29-27, 25-20.

Jack Marino paced Lakes' offense, picking up 15 kills. Marino got some help from Darien Zamora and his 29 assists. Zamora also made an impact serving: he shared the team lead in aces with Luke Rytina, racking up two apiece.

Lakes' loss dropped their record down to 14-20. As for Zion-Benton, their win bumped their record up to 8-25.

Coming up, Lakes will square off against Palatine at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Zion-Benton, they are taking a road trip to challenge Waukegan at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
