Basketball Recap: Carrizo Springs Falls Short of Wimberley in the Playoffs

Carrizo Springs and Wimberley squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Carrizo Springs had to settle for second. They took a 65-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wimberley Texans. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 653rd, while the Texans are ranked 246th).

It was another big night for Paul Gumbert-Mendoza, who went 10-for-16 to rack up 34 points for Wimberley. Gumbert-Mendoza has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 18 times he's played. Gavin Olmer was another key player, putting up eight points and 11 rebounds.

Carrizo Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 20-14. As for Wimberley, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 26-9.

Carrizo Springs does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Wimberley, they will face off against Wharton at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wharton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully Wimberley likes a good challenge.
