Baseball Game Preview: Bruton Panthers vs. Warhill Lions

Bruton hasn't had much luck against Warhill recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Panthers will head out to square off against the Lions at 4:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Bruton took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Gloucester, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Panthers narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Dukes 3-1. The victory was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Landon Middlebrook spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits.

At the plate, Bruton let Owen Lienard and Jack Kelly run wild. Lienard went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double, while Kelly went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three RBI gave Lienard a new career-high. Hayden Zimmerman also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, Warhill posted their closest win since March 26th on Monday. They had just enough and edged out York 5-4.

Evan Harney was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Bradley, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Bruton's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-14 and their overall record up to 2-14. As for Warhill, their record is now 12-4.

Bruton couldn't quite get it done against Warhill when the teams last played back in April as they fell 8-4. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
