Volleyball Recap: Newton Eagles vs. Pinckneyville Panthers

With a playoff game on the line, Newton rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Pinckneyville Panthers. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.

Newton was actually outscored in aggregate across those three sets (69-64), but they still managed to win. The match finished with set scores of 14-25, 25-21, 25-23.

Their offense was headlined by Camryn Martin and Hydi Bierman, who picked up six kills apiece. They got some help from Sally Mahaffey and her 18 assists. Allie Hermann controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

Newton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 17 of their last 18 games, which provided a nice bump to their 32-6 record this season. As for Pinckneyville, with the defeat, they broke their seven-game winning streak and moved their record to 28-9.

Newton has already played their next contest, a 2-0 loss against Carmi-White County on the 7th. Pinckneyville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
