Baseball Game Preview: Whitehall Vikings vs. NorthPointe Christian Mustangs

The Whitehall Vikings will head out to take on the NorthPointe Christian Mustangs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Whitehall came out on top against Fremont on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run second inning. The Vikings' pitchers stepped up to hand the Packers an 11-0 shutout.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for NorthPointe Christian, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They blew past Belding 10-3 on Thursday. The win was some much needed relief for the Mustangs as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Mac Stafford was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has become a key player for NorthPointe Christian: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-13 otherwise. Stafford was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sawyer Scheffler, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). Blake Dowling was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Whitehall's record is now 4-12. As for NorthPointe Christian, their record now sits at 7-13.
