Recap: Oakwood Panthers vs. Penelope Wolverines
The Oakwood Panthers lost against the Penelope Wolverines back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Oakwood took a 35-25 hit to the loss column at the hands of Penelope. While losing is never fun, Oakwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1588th, while Penelope is ranked 558th).
Oakwood's loss came despite strong showings from Jarvis Jones and Dayden Velasquez . Jones scored ten points, while Velasquez scored nine points.
Penelope had a senior duo take command as Jayden Schwarz scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and seven blocks and Michael Corson scored 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The matchup was Corson's 12th in a row with at least ten points.
Oakwood has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season. As for Penelope, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 13-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oakwood will be home for the holidays to greet Victory Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Victory Christian Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Penelope will be home for the holidays to greet Bynum at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
