Soccer Game Preview: Sumter County vs. Dodge County

Sumter County is 0-5 against Dodge County since March of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Panthers will welcome the Indians at 5:30 p.m. Sumter County has given up an average of 4.2 goals per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Sumter County is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to five goals last Thursday, they were much more limited against Columbus on Thursday. They came up short against the Blue Devils, falling 10-0. Considering the last time Sumter County couldn't score was back in February, the team can't take the result too hard.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dodge County). Their defense stepped up to hand Northeast a 12-0 shutout on Monday. The victory was nothing new for Dodge County as they're now sitting on five straight.

Dodge County pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 16 goals over those three contests. As for Sumter County, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7-1.

Sumter County might still be hurting after the 12-4 defeat they got from Dodge County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
