Baseball Recap: California Comes Up Short

California was the 5-1 winner over Dougherty Valley when they last played one another on Wednesday, but their luck changed this time around. The Grizzlies fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 5-4 on Thursday.

Ayden Velasquez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Thomas Casserly relieved him and did a solid job, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, Jacob Casiano was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

California's loss dropped their record down to 11-7-2. As for Dougherty Valley, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 4-15.

Coming up, California will head out to face off against Monte Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Grizzlies surely won't give up without a fight. As for Dougherty Valley, they are taking a road trip to square off against Livermore at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
