Basketball Game Preview: Statesboro Blue Devils vs. Screven County Gamecocks

The Statesboro Blue Devils will venture away from home to challenge the Screven County Gamecocks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Statesboro has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 10th.

On Tuesday, Statesboro was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 51-47 to South Effingham.

Meanwhile, Screven County hadn't done well against Bryan County recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Gamecocks managed a 50-44 win over the Redskins. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Gamecocks.

Screven County's win came from a few key players that Statesboro will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Anna Smith, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds. That's the most boards she has posted since back in November of 2025. Another player making a difference was Jaliah Roberts, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.

Statesboro now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Screven County, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6.

Statesboro didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Screven County in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 59-55 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
