Baseball Recap: Hawthorne Bears vs. Eastside Ghosts

Hawthorne extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 6-7 in the process. They came up short against the Eastside Ghosts, falling 16-5. The Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Ghosts apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

As for Eastside, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Eastside's part, Johan Pichardo looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Pichardo is becoming a predictor of the Ghosts' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 6-7 when he doesn't).

The team also got some help courtesy of William Vasquez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hawthorne will take on Midland Park at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Eastside, they will face off against Fair Lawn at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday.
