Football Recap: LBJ Austin Jaguars vs. La Vernia Bears

LBJ Austin and La Vernia squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but LBJ Austin had to settle for second. They fell just short of the La Vernia Bears by a score of 13-10. The Jaguars were red-hot offensively headed into the matchup (they scored no less than 31 points in the nine contests prior) but the Bears' defense proved too tough.

La Vernia found their leader in sophomore Ty Carter, who rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown. Carter's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 117 rushing yards. La Vernia also got a significant boost from Sean Garza, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 113 yards.

LBJ Austin moved to 11-1 with that loss, which also ended their 11-game winning streak. As for La Vernia, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-3.

LBJ Austin does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for La Vernia, their road trip will continue as they head out to face Calhoun at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
