Softball Recap: Pace Gets the Win

On Friday Pace's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Edinburg North Cougars. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vikings have posted since February 14, 2025.

Nubia Alvarado made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Megan Mares was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

Pace's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Edinburg North, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Coming up, Pace will challenge Harlingen South at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season. As for Edinburg North, they will take on United South in a tournament on Saturday. The last four games the Panthers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
