Basketball Game Preview: Sound Christian Lions vs. Muckleshoot Tribal Kings

Sound Christian and Muckleshoot Tribal are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2016, but not for long. The Sound Christian Lions will square off against the Muckleshoot Tribal Kings at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Muckleshoot Tribal took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Sound Christian, who comes in off a win.

On Monday, Sound Christian humbled Quilcene with a 43-8 victory. That 35 point margin sets a new team best for the Lions this season.

Sound Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Abby Mesler, who went 8 of 16 on her way to 21 points and four steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Mesler has scored at least a third of Sound Christian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Piper Timmer, who posted eight points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Meanwhile, Muckleshoot Tribal had to suffer through a 70-30 loss at the hands of Crosspoint Christian. The Kings have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Muckleshoot Tribal's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-5. As for Sound Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.

Sound Christian was able to grind out a solid win over Muckleshoot Tribal when the teams last played back in January of 2024, winning 54-42. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sound Christian since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
