Basketball Recap: Mullen Continues Home Dominance on Friday

While Mullen didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They strolled past the Ainsworth Bulldogs with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 52-35. Given the Broncos' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 225th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mullen found their leader in freshman Jenna Donohoe, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Donohoe has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Paxton, who posted 11 points and four steals.

Mullen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 13 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Mullen pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points per game. As for Ainsworth, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-7.

Mullen and Maywood/Hayes Center will face off at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. As for Ainsworth, they are taking a road trip to take on Burwell at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
