Recap: Westville Blackhawks vs. Bethany Christian Bruins
The Westville Blackhawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They lost to Bethany Christian on the road by a decisive 70-51 margin. Westville found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up 11 fewer assists than your opponent.
Westville's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kaden Pepper, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Gavin Hannon who scored eight points. Pepper set a new season high mark in steals with three. Another player making a difference was Josh Wert, who scored nine points.
Leading Bethany Christian to victory were Jacoby Reinhardt and Tyson Chupp. Reinhardt scored 24 points along with six rebounds, while Chupp shot 5-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten rebounds. Reinhardt continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played.
Westville has fallen quite a ways from their 16-8 record last season and are now at 3-6. As for Bethany Christian, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-6.
Westville won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Clinton Christian at 12:30 p.m. on December 30th. Hopefully Clinton Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Friday. Bethany Christian and DeMotte Christian will round out the year against one another at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Luke Terpstra and Chupp.
