The Overland Trailblazers will head out on the road to challenge the Lincoln Lancers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Overland has given up an average of 11.7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Overland came up short against Rangeview on Thursday, falling 13-3. The Trailblazers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Overland saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ruben Luna, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one double. That double was Luna's first of the season. Brayan Ascensio was another, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lincoln, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They put the hurt on Thornton with a sharp 13-3 victory on Wednesday. Considering the Lancers have won three matches by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Oliver Flores made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Flores was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Josue Pena and Sam Trujillo did most of the damage at the plate: Pena went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Trujillo scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Those three hits gave Pena a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Sandoval, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
Lincoln always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Overland's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Lincoln, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Overland has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .464. However, it's not like Lincoln struggles in that department as they've averaged .432. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
