Basketball Game Preview: University Wildcats vs. Fairfax Lions

University is 1-9 against Fairfax since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the University Wildcats duke it out with the Fairfax Lions at 6:00 p.m. University is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.6 points per game this season.

University is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Palisades on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. University was outmatched by Palisades and fell 59-32. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 754th, while the Dolphins are ranked 186th).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jonah Hansen, who posted 15 points. Kahmron Hill was another key player, putting up six points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Fairfax humbled Los Angeles CES with a 74-41 victory. That 33 point margin sets a new team best for the Lions this season.

Fairfax is also on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-10 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.8 points per game. As for University, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-8.

Things could have been worse for University, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 56-38 loss to Fairfax in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Can University avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
