Softball Recap: Jurupa Valley Takes a Loss

Jurupa Valley dropped their record down to 10-7 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Ramona Rams, falling 16-0. The Jaguars were red-hot at the plate heading into the matchup (they scored no less than ten runs in the four contests prior), but the Rams' pitchers proved too tough.

As for Ramona, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games.

For Ramona's part, not much got past Kaytlin Stephens, who gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks to keep Jurupa Valley off the board. Stephens has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ramona let Kylie Guzman and Olivia Chavez run wild. Guzman went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double, while Chavez went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Emily Gonzalez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.

While Jurupa Valley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
