Baseball Recap: Irvine Comes Up Short

Irvine fell victim to Sage Hill and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Lightning by a score of 1-0. The Vaqueros were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lightning apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Irvine saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cohto Toya, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double. That double marked the first that Toya has hit this season.

Irvine has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season. As for Sage Hill, they pushed their record up to 7-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

While Irvine had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
