Baseball Recap: Greenfield Extends Home Winning Streak to Nine

There's no place like home for Greenfield, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They skirted past the John Paul II Catholic Saints 6-5. This was a revenge game for the Knights: when they faced off against the Saints on Tuesday, they had to take a 5-2 loss.

Simon Quinn made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tristan Stancil, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.

Greenfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as John Paul II Catholic only posted an OBP of .355.

Greenfield's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for John Paul II Catholic, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 11-8.

Looking ahead, Greenfield will challenge South Range at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Knights 3.4, the Raiders 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for John Paul II Catholic, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Grace Christian at 6:00 p.m. on the 28th.
