Preview: Cottage Cougars vs. Howard Hawks

Cottage and Howard are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Cottage Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Howard Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cottage will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.

On Tuesday, Cottage strolled past Atlanta Jewish Academy with points to spare, taking the game 34-20.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cottage to victory, but perhaps none more so than Grace Workman, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 steals. Workman is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last four games she's played. Alyssa Briggs was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.

Meanwhile, Howard put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. Everything went their way against Tapestry Charter as Howard made off with a 39-16 victory. Howard pushed the score to 29-5 by the end of the third, a deficit Tapestry Charter cut but never quite recovered from.

Howard's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Keira Ryan, who scored seven points, and Ava Beck, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.

Cottage has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for Howard, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.

Thursday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Cottage have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34.6 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Howard, though, as they've been averaging only 0.5 rebounds per game. Given Cottage's sizable advantage in that area, Howard will need to find a way to close that gap.

Cottage didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Howard in their previous matchup two weeks ago, but they still walked away with a 36-30 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cottage since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
