Soccer Game Preview: Granite City vs. Marquette Catholic

The Granite City Warriors will face off against the Marquette Catholic Explorers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Granite City will be strutting in after a victory while Marquette Catholic will be coming in after a loss.

Granite City's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They walked away with a 2-0 win over Belleville East. The victory continues a trend for Granite City in their matchups with Belleville East: they've now won four in a row.

Charlee Schwaller and Lucy Klumpp scored both of Granite City's goals, bringing their combined season tally to four goals.

Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Marquette Catholic's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They came up short against Althoff Catholic, falling 3-0. Having soared to a lofty nine goals in the game before, Marquette Catholic's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Granite City's win bumped their record up to 6-4-5. As for Marquette Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-6-2.

Granite City beat Marquette Catholic by a goal in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 3-2. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Explorers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
