Preview: Morristown-Hamblen East Hurricanes vs. Greeneville Greene Devils
The Morristown-Hamblen East Hurricanes are on the road again on Friday and plays the Greeneville Greene Devils at 8:00 p.m. on February 9th. Morristown-Hamblen East knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight contests -- so hopefully Greeneville likes a good challenge.
Last Tuesday, Morristown-Hamblen East had just enough and edged Sevier County out 55-53.
Morristown-Hamblen East's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kyle Cloninger, who scored 25 points along with two steals. Cloninger is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last 27 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Keegan Mink, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Greeneville scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They blew past Volunteer 85-37 on the road. Given Greeneville's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while Volunteer is ranked 355th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Morristown-Hamblen East is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season. As for Greeneville, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-8.
Morristown-Hamblen East was able to grind out a solid victory over Greeneville when the teams last played back in November of 2023, winning 62-50. The rematch might be a little tougher for Morristown-Hamblen East since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
