Recap: Leakey Eagles vs. Nueces Canyon Panthers

The Leakey Eagles lost against the Nueces Canyon Panthers last Saturday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Leakey took a 42-27 bruising from Nueces Canyon. Leakey has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Nueces Canyon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Madison Sifuentes led the charge by scoring 13 points along with four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Sifuentes has scored at least 25% of Nueces Canyon's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Schreiner Meredith, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds.

Leakey bumped their record down to 3-3 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.5 points per game. As for Nueces Canyon, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-4.

Coincidentally, Leakey and Nueces Canyon will both be playing Medina the next time they take the court. Nueces Canyon will head out to face Medina at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Leakey will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
