Basketball Recap: Cuba's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

After losing to Sandia Prep the last time they met, Cuba decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Cuba Rams managed a 40-36 win over the Sandia Prep Sundevils on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Rams sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Cuba's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Latishia Nez led the charge by putting up eight points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Abriana Largo, who went 5 for 12 en route to 14 points.

Sandia Prep's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Calkins, who posted 12 points and three steals. Madlyn Dopson was another key player, earning 15 points and eight boards.

Cuba's victory bumped their record up to 9-12. As for Sandia Prep, they moved to 9-10 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Cuba will face off against East Mountain at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sandia Prep, they will challenge Bosque at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sandia Prep is facing Bosque at the right time seeing as Bosque is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
