Softball Recap: Northwest Cabarrus Trojans vs. Concord Spiders
Northwest Cabarrus had lost five straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 7-9 to make it six. They fell 6-3 to the Concord Spiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-3 back in March.
Haylee Ellis was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Ellis was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.
Ellis wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kinsley Jung, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
As for Concord, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games.
Like Northwest Cabarrus, Concord also got a great game from a two-way player: Alexa Hooks. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Hooks has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Concord let McKinley Williams and Emilia Bradley run wild. Williams got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run, while Bradley went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
