Softball Recap: Weeki Wachee Comes Up Short

Weeki Wachee had lost six straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 3-13 to make it seven. They came up short against the Crystal River Pirates, falling 14-0. The Hornets were not able to make up for their defeat to the Pirates from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.

As for Crystal River, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games.

For Crystal River's part, Violet Flynn made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Flynn has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Athena Childs was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Emma Crosby was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Weeki Wachee will host Seven Rivers Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 10.3 runs per game this season. As for Crystal River, they are taking a road trip to take on Trenton at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
