Baseball Preview: Southwestern Rebels vs. Charlestown Pirates
The Southwestern Rebels are headed away from home for the first time to take on the Charlestown Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Southwestern is headed out to face Charlestown after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. Southwestern put the hurt on Henryville with a sharp 15-0 win on Monday. The Rebels haven't had any issues with the Hornets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Adam Traylor was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Traylor was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Andrew Varble was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Jeter Chatham, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Southwestern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Henryville only posted an OBP of .111.
Meanwhile, Charlestown beat Lanesville 8-3 on Monday.
Connor Buck tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched.
At the plate, Lex Rose was a standout: he scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Lynch, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Southwestern beat Charlestown 4-1 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Southwestern since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
