Softball Recap: Metro Tech Knights vs. South Mountain Jaguars

Sadly, Metro Tech is still looking for their first win of the season after 16 matchups. They fell victim to a tough 20-12 defeat at the hands of the South Mountain Jaguars on Thursday. Both teams can probably skip cardio this week after making that many trips around the bases.

Wendy Hernandez and Laura Leyva stepped up to the plate in a big way. Hernandez went 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and a stolen base, while Leyva went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and a stolen base. Hernandez is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stolen at least one in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jocelyn Hernandez Lopez, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4.

On South Mountain's side, Alexia Ramirez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and seven unearned) runs off 13 hits. Ramirez was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 4-for-6.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mariah Salas, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Sarah Guzman, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances.
