Baseball Recap: Glenbrook South Takes a Loss

Glenbrook South had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 8-14 to make it four. They fell just short of the New Trier Trevians by a score of 4-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trevians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-3 on Monday.

Jack Valentinas was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had over his last four matches.

At the plate, Trey Ryno was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. Anthony Nottage was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.

As for New Trier, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games.

On New Trier's side, Mason Jurewicz looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Jurewicz has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, New Trier's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Caiden Carpenter, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

While Glenbrook South had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
