Baseball Game Preview: Athenian Owls vs. Head-Royce Jayhawks

For the second straight game, Athenian will face off against Head-Royce. The Owls will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Jayhawks at 4:00 p.m.

Athenian couldn't beat Head-Royce on Wednesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the second inning. The Owls fell just short of the Jayhawks by a score of 9-7. The Owls have struggled against the Jayhawks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

For Head-Royce's part, the team relied heavily on Davis Lynch, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Lynch has posted since back in April of 2024. Caleb Roth was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

Head-Royce always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Head-Royce's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Athenian, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.
