Baseball Recap: Orangeville Comes Up Short

Orangeville had lost six straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-18 to make it seven. They lost 30-0 to the Dakota Indians. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on Tuesday.

As for Dakota, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-12. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Dakota's part, Braxton Mazurkiewicz was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Mazurkiewicz has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. He has become a key player for Dakota: the team is 9-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, Dakota got a massive performance out of Brodie Goode, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. What's more, Goode posted three hits, the most he's had since back in April. Another player making a difference was Aidan Blocker, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with six RBI, three runs, and one double.

Looking ahead, Orangeville will be playing in front of their home fans against Indian Creek at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Broncos are facing the Timberwolves at the right time seeing as the Timberwolves are stuck on a 20-game losing streak. As for Dakota, they are taking a road trip to challenge Durand/Pecatonica at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
