Basketball Recap: Gilbert Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Gilbert hadn't done well against Winterset recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Gilbert Tigers came out on top against the Winterset Huskies by a score of 47-40. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the Huskies are ranked 225th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gilbert's victory bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Winterset, they dropped their record down to 2-11 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gilbert has already played their next contest (against North Polk), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Winterset and Van Meter will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Van Meter will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Winterset surely won't give up without a fight.
