Baseball Game Preview: Masconomet Regional Chieftains vs. St. Mary's Spartans

The Masconomet Regional Chieftains are taking a road trip to challenge the St. Mary's Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. The last five games Masconomet Regional has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Masconomet Regional's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Marblehead, sneaking past 2-0. The Chieftains haven't had any issues with the Magicians recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for St. Mary's, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They skirted past Pope Francis Prep 5-4.

St. Mary's pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Masconomet Regional, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.

Masconomet Regional couldn't quite get it done against St. Mary's in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can the Chieftains avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
