Basketball Recap: Hughson Comes Up Short

Hughson was the 73-51 winner over Hilmar when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Hughson Huskies fell 60-48 to the Hilmar Yellowjackets on Thursday.

When it comes to explaining why Hughson lost, don't look at Jackson Gehrke. Despite the final result, he went 8 for 12 en route to 22 points and eight rebounds. With that strong performance, Gehrke is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Riley Clark was another key player, putting up seven points.

Aaron Solorio was nothing short of spectacular for Hilmar: he dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 boards. That's the most rebounds Solorio has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Cohen Felber, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine boards.

Hughson has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season. As for Hilmar, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-13.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Ripon the next time they take the court. Hilmar will host Ripon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Hughson will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
