Basketball Recap: Southwest SD's Run of Seven Straight Victories Now Over

Southwest SD and Maranatha Christian squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Southwest SD had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Maranatha Christian Eagles by a score of 47-44. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Raiders have suffered since November 20, 2024.

Southwest SD's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Noah Soltero, who posted 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Borja, who earned 14 points.

Maranatha Christian was led to victory by Will Ralston and Shane Piester. Ralston went 8-for-19 en route to 19 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds, while Piester shot 46% from the field on his way to 15 points and seven boards. That's the most assists Ralston has posted since back in November of 2024. Dash Ekeroth was another key player, putting up seven points.

The defeat snapped Southwest SD's winning streak at seven games and leaves them with a 25-7 record. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.9 points over those games. As for Maranatha Christian, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 17-15.

Southwest SD and Maranatha Christian are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Southwest SD will host Ramona at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Southwest SD has won three straight at home, while Ramona won six straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for Maranatha Christian, they will welcome Pacifica at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Maranatha Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.6 points per game this season.
