Chisum comes up short despite Emma Garner's dominant performance

Recap: Chisum Mustangs vs. Edgewood Bulldogs

The Chisum Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 50-41 to Edgewood. Chisum has struggled against Edgewood recently, as their contest on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Chisum lost, one person who can't be blamed is Emma Garner. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten blocks. Garner scored a full 29.3% of Chisum's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Bradberry, who scored eight points.

Chisum struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Edgewood racked up 11 assists.

Edgewood had a senior duo take command as Blair McPherson scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and three steals and Kassidy Paul scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and six blocks. The contest was McPherson's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kagan Grant, who scored five points.

Chisum bumped their record down to 11-13 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Edgewood, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-7.

Chisum will head out on the road to face off against Prairiland at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Edgewood, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Grand Saline at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grand Saline will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 661st, while Edgewood is ranked 241st).
