Basketball Recap: Cook County Takes a Loss

Cook County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were dealt a 79-24 loss at the hands of the Cromwell Cardinals. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 339th, while the Cardinals are ranked 49th).

Cromwell's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Shannon Lund led the charge by almost dropping a triple-double on 14 points, 13 rebounds, and nine steals. The dominant performance gave Lund a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Isabella Anderson, who went 6 of 8 on her way to 14 points and six rebounds.

Cook County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Cromwell, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cook County will venture away from home to take on Ely at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cromwell, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Cromwell Cardinals take on the South Ridge Panthers at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
