Northridge and Syracuse are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. Northridge will welcome Syracuse at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Northridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Northridge barely beat Westlake the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Northridge blew past Westlake 14-4 on Tuesday. The Knights have beaten the Thunder the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Thunder has come to flipping the script.
The team relied heavily on Jon Olsen, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Boston Wright was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Olsen wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Northridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. Northridge is a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Syracuse ultimately got the result they hoped for two weeks ago. They had just enough and edged out Woods Cross 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Titans have posted since April 25, 2024.
Syracuse's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Burkon Beus, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
The victory made it two in a row for Syracuse and bumps their season record up to 2-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Northridge, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Northridge has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .434. However, it's not like Syracuse struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Northridge couldn't quite get it done against Syracuse when the teams last played back in May of 2021 as they fell 7-2. Can Northridge avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
