Baseball Recap: Adams Extends Winning Streak to Four

Adams lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Spruce, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's game. Adams never let Spruce get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Wednesday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

Ethan Segovia tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Adams is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Adams let Christian Rodriguez and Nick Ortiz run wild. Rodriguez got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one triple, while Ortiz scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Ortiz is becoming a predictor of Adams' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't). Justino Chavarria was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

The win (which was Adams' fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-7. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Spruce, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-6.

Adams will have a chance to go back-to-back against Spruce: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
