Preview: Clearfield Falcons vs. Skyline Eagles

The Clearfield Falcons will head out on the road to face off against the Skyline Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clearfield will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.

Clearfield has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 32 points or more this season. They blew past Weber, posting a 62-25 win at home. Given Clearfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Weber is ranked 100th), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Clearfield relied on the efforts of Isabelle Wyaskett, who scored 12 points along with six steals and five rebounds, and Nevea Cordova, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Those five rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Xiyah Yarbrough was another key contributor, scoring four points along with seven rebounds and six steals.

Skyline can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They walked away with a 51-41 victory over Viewmont. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Skyline has managed all season.

Leelu Bare was her usual excellent self, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Skyline's points. Another player making a difference was Cami Groberg, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds.

Clearfield pushed their record up to 6-0 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Skyline, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-7.

Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's game: Clearfield have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5.2 threes per game. It's a different story for Skyline, though, as they've been averaging only 6 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Clearfield might still be hurting after the 55-33 defeat they got from Skyline when the teams last played back in December of 2020. Thankfully for Clearfield, Tina Njike (who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
