Volleyball Recap: Pender Starts Season with Victory at Home

Pender took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Monday. They blew past the Fairmont Golden Tornadoes 3-0.

The match came down to the wire multiple times:two sets needed extra rallies to declare a winner. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 32-30, 29-27.

Jensen Bordeaux was nothing short of spectacular: she had 38 digs, six kills, and three aces. Those 38 digs gave her a new career-high. Eden Gurganous was another key player, getting 27 digs and two aces.

They weren't the only good server: Pender was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in eight consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Several Golden Tornadoes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Layla Hunt, who had three digs and three aces. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerrian Taylor, who had 14 digs and two assists.

Coming up, Pender will face off against Wallace-Rose Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fairmont, they will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on Purnell Swett at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
