Softball Recap: Iola Comes Up Short

Iola had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 4-6 to make it four. They lost 11-1 to the Santa Fe Trail Chargers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 on Tuesday.

As for Santa Fe Trail, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-3 record this season. Considering they have won 19 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Santa Fe Trail's part, Sydnee Sleichter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits. Sleichter has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Santa Fe Trail let Kailyn Claypool and Bailey Walker run wild. Claypool went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run, while Walker went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits Claypool has posted over her last nine games. Another player making a difference was Addalyn Sleichter, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

As of now, neither Iola nor Santa Fe Trail have any future games scheduled.
