Baseball Recap: Sandy Valley Takes a Loss

Sandy Valley extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 2-5. They came up short against the Pahranagat Valley Panthers, falling 18-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 22-1 on Friday.

As for Pahranagat Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-5-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games.

For Pahranagat Valley's part, Ethan Zander and Colin Howard did most of the damage at the plate: Zander went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Howard went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Howard has become a key player for the Panthers: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Bronson Fiatoa, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Looking ahead, Sandy Valley will host Indian Springs at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Thunderbirds will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Pahranagat Valley, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Beaver Dam at 1:00 p.m. on April 7.
