Softball Recap: Poly Wins High-Profile Contest Against Valley View

Poly faced Valley View in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Bears never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 3-0 win. This was a revenge game for the Bears: when they faced off against the Eagles on April 3rd, they had to take a 6-2 defeat.

Not much got past Marley Audoma, who gave up just five hits to keep Valley View off the board. Audoma has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brookelyn Duerfeldt, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. Another player making a difference was Cassandra Ayala, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Poly pushed their record up to 18-6-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Valley View, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 18-4 record.

Looking ahead, Poly will head out to square off against Liberty at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Valley View, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Orange Vista at 4:00 p.m. The Coyotes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.61 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
